top 20 colleges of the philippines

i got this list from philippine star demand and supply by boo chanco. the list contains 11 from manila, 2 from visayas and 7 from mindanao. although my alma mater mindanao polytechnic state college [mpsc] from cagayan de oro city is not in the list, i was very happy because 35 percent of the schools are from mindanao. here is the list:
  1. University of the Philippines (Diliman Campus/Luzon);
  2. University of the Philippines (Los Banos Campus/Luzon);
  3. University of the Philippines (Manila Campus/Luzon);
  4. Silliman University (Dumaguete City/Visayas);
  5. Ateneo de Davao University (Davao/Mindanao);
  6. Ateneo de Manila University (Manila/Luzon);
  7. University of Sto. Tomas (Manila/Luzon);
  8. Mindanao State University (Iligan Institute of Tech/Mindanao);
  9. Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (Manila/Luzon);
  10. Saint Louis University (Baguio City/Luzon);
  11. University of San Carlos (Cebu City/Visayas);
  12. Xavier University (Cagayan de Oro/Mindanao);
  13. Mindanao State University (Main/Mindanao);
  14. Urios College (Butuan City/Mindanao);
  15. Polytechnic University of the Philippines(Manila/Luzon);
  16. De La Salle University (Manila/Luzon);
  17. Mapua Institute of Technology (Manila/Luzon);
  18. Adamson University (Manila/Luzon);
  19. Central Mindanao University ( Bukidnon/Mindanao);
  20. University of Southern Philippines (Davao/Mindanao).
boo chanco's point here is not all the schools in manila are top performing. and instead of sending your children, brothers and sisters in manila to study why not pick schools from the list which maybe low on tuition fees and other costs.

why send your children on some schools in manila which are not in the list or offer higher tution fee? and worst some colleges here in manila don't have ched accreditation.

just take note of the list of schools above, la salle is at 16th place and out performed by 2 schools from visayas and 5 from mindanao. and i'm sure that the tution fee in la salle is 50% more compared with the private schools in visayas and mindanao. and you can even save more from tution fees if you study in some state colleges which offer socialize tution fees.

what made me think is, expensive tution fee does not make you secure a job when you graduate. and if you apply for the job, don't forget to write the ranking of your school.

This post reminds me of what I had been thinking as a college student. I was wondering why there is a University belt. Even at the time, I was thinking that was not such a good idea. For one thing, it resulted in congestion of students in both the universities and dormitories. Problems like drugs escalated.

Soon, the govenrment saw this and urged universities to disperse.

Hi! i'm Alison from University of Asia and the Pacific (UAP). Actually the most "Expensive School" in the Philippines which is just exclusively for wealthy Filipinos only.

Wow! I just got surprised when i saw this blog. I was just actually searching for the top 10 most expensive schools in the Philippines but this is what i got!

I don't want to argue with you people. But i just can't believe this. La Salle is in 16th place while Ateneo is in 5th or 6th.. This is unbelievable.

Do you know that La Salle and Ateneo were the only universities who achieved the highest scholastic status in this country? (not even UP) that's level 4. And La Salle was actually the first one to achieved such. Guys, think about it.

Why is La Salle placed to number 16? and why is St. Louie University of Baguio placed to number 10 but the fact that SLU is just in level 1 or 2?

Heck! sure, this won't make sense to someone who doesn't know about "scholastic level" made by PAASCU and CHED.

What about other schools like San Beda College, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, and University of Asia and the Pacific? These prestigeous and exclusive schools are excellent in both sports and academis. So how come that they are not included from the list?

i just got so many questions that need to be answered? Anyone please?

Thanks.

Oh hey Alison of University of Asia and the Pacific!!

I understand how you feel. you were actually searching for the most expensive schools in the Philippines but surprisingly this is what you've got! Touchkey's blog!

this is a nice blog! i think the author did it great. he made this blog for educated people (college students) to give their point of views and valuable insights. people who know how to respect. so i hope that no respondents will turn into a green big body incredible hulk to disapprove one's opinion. hahaha!

but it could have been better if the author showed the article to prove that this "ranking" is true or not.

now here's my point (actually it's almost the same as your explanation).

Why is it that La Salle were placed to number 16 whereas La Salle was the first University in this country to achieved the highest accreditation (level 4)? Next is Ateneo de Manila - they made it also. yes you are right that U.P. haven't yet achieved that level. so what does this mean?

I am also confused about this. Just like you Alison, I am also waiting for someone who can give a good explanation about this matter.

Though i'd like to correct you man. We don't call it "Scholastic level". We call it "University level" made by the PAASCU Accrediting Team and the Comission of Higher Education (CHED).

Oh by the way. I am Vladimir. I am from Colegio de San Juan de Letran (it's an actually an Exclusive School). I'm taking Business Studies. Our school fees in Letran are lower compared to your school. Our school fees cost from 45,000 up to 65,000 depending on the number of units and the course you are taking up. Although Letran is also in included in the "top 10 most expensive schools in the Philippines". UA&P is actually in the 1st place next is La Salle.

I don't think we should feel too bad and upset just because our schools were not included in the list - in this blog that is.

The author is right. I think it is more practical to study in the province rather than to insist their parents to send them in Manila to get a degree. The point is, there are still so many Universities in the provinces that offer a good quality education.

Good luck to all of us in college!
God Bless!

Is it a reliable source? Nagtataka lang ako why kaya di kasali ang PHILIPPINE NORMAL UNIVERSITY diyan! samantala sa top performing school sa Asia ay nandun sa top 10 ang PNU. As i view it, other school found here are not even accredited 3 by THE CHED. UP, ADMU,AdU LANG ATA ANG DAPAT KASALI DIYAN THE REST ARE "SALING PUSA".Saan naman ang UST AT AU.

duh?? the question should be: what's the criteria/basis for making this list? if i'm not mistaken, the top basis is the passing rate of each school in board exams. well, oh well, no wonder UP (my school) hits the number one spot! we're always 100% passing! especially in GE board exams. go UP!!! we are simply the best! for those who came from letran and UA&P who have violent reactions, why don't you just check this site:

This source came from PRC which is also posted in the bulletin board of my school(Adamson University).. the rankings were the same in rankings i saw posted in our campus.

I've read the violent reactions coming from a student of UA&P.. you know having expensive education does not mean total quality education.. UA&P maybe the most expensive school in the Philippines but i think UA&P haven't proved something in terms of Academic Excellence.

The rankings you saw here are just mere fact and the criteria were THE BOARD PASSING PERCENTAGE and number of TOPNOTCHERS in BOARD EXAMINATIONS.

i think, the list of the top 20 school is based only on the performance in the board examinations. Think about it.

Small schools which has a few
courses offered has a less chance of getting in the top 20. For example, San Beda College, Colegio de San Juan de Letran and University of Asia and the Pacific doesnt have many courses which has a board examination. But they performed well in courses such as Law, Accountancy and Commerce.

And to think of it, San Beda and UAP has a high accreditation from PAASCU and CHED. I think both are in level 3 while Ateneo and La Salle are in level 4.

La Salle is also the Best Private University in the Philippines, how come they only ranked 16th?

im really confused and upset bout the result.

UP is not incuded in the PAASCU accreditation since it is a public school..

By the way, for those students of the schools not included in the list or feels that their school is ranked unfairly, just accept it.. yeah. We are all loyal to our alma mater and we want it to be recognized.. but guys.. you dont need to compare and compare, tell negative and offending opinions and leave boisterous comments to the other students of other schools or the institution itself.. hail UST :)
